The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the social environment in which people live and work. During the past year, we have all been separated from our normal lives, from our workplaces and colleagues, and worst of all, from the people we love. Our TV actors are also suffering from the emotional pain of staying away from their families.
In an attempt to keep the shows running during the current lockdown in Mumbai, many TV producers have shifted workbase from Mumbai to other states/regions. At a time when India is grappling with the second wave of COVID-19, the television actors are entertaining viewers by staying away from their beloved family members and shooting for their respective shows from remote locations.
IWMBuzz spoke to few popular actors from the television industry who revealed about their feeling while being away from home. Read on:
Talented actor Sumeet Raghavan who plays the role of Rajesh Wagle in Sony Sab show Wagle Ki Duniya – Nayi Peedhi Naye Kissey said, “No doubt, it is difficult to stay away from home but luckily my children are now all grown up and can stand on their own feet. I feel for the other actors and technicians who have small children. Above all, I do miss my family and my pets, though the environment here is built on strong bonds. These memories that have been made here, will be cherished forever. I miss all the little things, ghar ka khana, ghar ki chai and all other things associated with my home. The first thing I will do once I return home is to ask my wife to prepare a good wholesome meal which I have been missing so much. While I have been enjoying shooting for my show and entertaining people through these difficult times, I have also been reminiscing old memories of my family and that’s something that also keeps me going.”
On the other hand, Shiny Doshi, who is the lead Dhara in Star Plus show Pandya Store, added, “We have been away from our family for one and half months now. The initial days were really amazing as we felt like a picnic. The food here is good, I am blessed that we have a lot of facilities. Having said that, I miss ghar ka khana. I miss my mother. I was tired of eating the same kind of food here so I skipped my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I only survived on tang (orange juice) and chips throughout the day. I am very fussy about food. It is difficult. There are times when you completely break down and want to go back home. But when I see the other side of the coin, I feel blessed and lucky to have work. People have been suffering, few have lost their job, surviving in difficulties so I feel lucky to be on the other side. I am sure things will soon become normal and we will return home, I am waiting for that day.
We also sought the valuable opinion of Param Singh, who is currently seen as Ahaan in Sony TV show Ishk Par Zor Nahi, he mentioned, “Firstly, I am very happy that I am shooting and the shoot has not stalled because of Covid-19. I am glad to be working during these difficult times. But I do miss my family, my dogs, friends, homemade food. I was really worried about my family because of the cyclonic storm and because of the pandemic. There was a feeling of trepidation. However, I am glad that the family is fine and they are taking care of the precautions. I talk to them every day on calls. I miss them but I really hope that there only a few more days like these and I am going to be with them soon.”
Sasural Simar Ka 2’s Reema aka Tanya Sharma shared, “I do miss everything and specially ghar ka khana. We have been eating outside food all three meals so I am surely not going to eat outside food for some time once I go home. I miss home but we all know that pandemic has taken away a lot of lives and jobs so the other way I feel blessed. We are able to entertain people and earn money this is a truly blissful feeling. I value these things a lot.”
Tanya’s co-star from the show Karan Sharma, who plays the role of Vivaan shared a tragic incident, he said, “I was staying with my father in Mumbai. I brought him to Mumbai from Dehradun for kidney treatment. Soon, we were told about the outdoor shoot in Agra. However, it was a 10-day outdoor shoot so I agreed. Mumbai lockdown extended so we continued our shoot in Agra. I was worried about my father so informed few friends to look after my father. I am really thankful to all my friends. I was a helpless situation.”
“Home is where the heart is.” A timeless old quote by Pliny the Elder is what we remember now. We salute these actors too who have been facing emotional pain to keep entertainment alive.
