Indian television’s one of the longest and most popular sitcoms, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, on July 28, 2026, completed 18 years of release, with the first episode premiered on July 28, 2008, airing on Sony SAB TV channel. As the show achieves a new milestone in an exclusive interview with IWMBuzz, the actor opened up about the success highlights nobody thought they would come this long.
When asked about his experience as Gokuldham Society was decorated and if that made him feel like the first day of the shoot, Dilip said, “Today is indeed a very special day.” He then added that on July 28, 2008, the first episode aired, and who could have thought the show would run for 18 years, and even in the 18th year it would rank in the top 10.
Dilip also shared that the journey was possible only because of the love and support from the audience, and it’s unbelievable. He emphasized that even today they were all wondering when they shot the first episode; they didn’t believe that the show would run so long, and it’s a very happy thing.
Opening up on the USP (Unique Selling Proposition) of the show, Dilip expressed his thoughts, sharing that he thinks it’s the characters’ innocence that clicked with the audience. And the second thing is that the show has something for every age group, from parents and kids to the elderly; there are characters representing every age group, and lastly, the clean comedy the show has, which a family can watch sitting together, makes it one of a kind.
Speaking on the difficulties of clean comedy, Dilip shares that more than rehearsing the scripts, they try to improve it and give their best. He mentions that they also take care of the boundary, as he shares that sequences they show between Jethalal and Babita, so they monitor more on what they should not do as compared to what they should do because there is a very thin line in these things.
