Preeti Simoes, breaking the silence, said the label has often overshadowed her years of work in the entertainment industry. In a recent interview with Free Press Journal, she shared how frustrating it has been to see her professional achievements take a backseat to headlines focused on her personal life.

Having produced several successful television projects, including Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show, Preeti said she has spent years being recognized not for her contribution to the industry but for her association with a celebrity.

Recalling her experience, she revealed, “For the longest time, I was somebody’s girlfriend. Then, after we broke up and moved on with our separate lives, I became somebody’s ex-girlfriend in every headline. It had nothing to do with what I do. It was always ‘so-and-so’s ex-girlfriend’ or ‘so-and-so’s girlfriend.’ I don’t think the audience is really interested in that. I think it’s a section of the media that believes people will click only when you’re connected to a famous name.”

Preeti also reflected on the way society judges relationships without knowing the reality behind them. She pointed out that two people can move on gracefully, remain friends, or continue to share a cordial professional equation, yet outsiders often create their own narratives.

Sharing her frustration, she said, “It’s very frustrating because nobody really knows what’s happening between two people. They could be very happy being friends, or they could be cordial with each other in a professional space. But the labels of ‘girlfriend’ and ‘ex-girlfriend’ continue forever. And if it’s a woman, the assumption is always, ‘She must have done something.'”

Beyond her association with Kapil Sharma’s comedy shows, Preeti Simoes has built an impressive body of work as a producer with projects such as Aakhri Sach, Dil Diyan Gallan, Kanpurwale Khuranas, Gangs of Filmistaan, and Sunita Ahuja’s YouTube show.

Meanwhile, Kapil Sharma tied the knot with Ginni Chatrath in December 2018. The couple is parents to two children, daughter Anayra and son Trishaan.
