Ratna Pathak Shah, the well-known Indian television and film actress, has worked in several hit shows like Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai and films like Kapoor & Sons, Golmaal 3, etc. She recently revealed her shocking early struggles as an actor, highlighting that she wasn’t recognised as an actor in the films and television saved her at that time.
Ratna sat down for a candid chat with Pinkvilla, where the diva spilled the beans on interesting things about her life. Talking about whether she felt competition or upset in the early days when Naaseeruddin Shah used to get work, even though you love that person, the actress Ratna said, “Yes, of course, I used to feel very bad, I was surprised that I didn’t get it, I mean they don’t consider me as an actor in the films definitely. But even in the theatre, I mean, I only got Dubey. Dubey was one of the few people who wanted me to work with him.
“And that is why I was so relieved when television opened the door for me. Television saved my life literally. Here and there, firstly work, paid work, for me, not because I’m with Naseer or whatever, and very important comedy, something I have never done before. But in that era, we were young and stupid, so we said yes, let’s do it, why not? No one did it, not anyone made a show on TV early,” Ratna added.
Ratna also revealed that everyone was new from the cameraman, director, actor, everyone was trying for the first time, and the magic of a first timer hits different, so she and the team had a great pleasure and enjoyed it.
