Actress Sonarika Bhadoria, who welcomed her first child, baby girl Virika, in December 2025, has now broken her silence amid the ongoing buzz over postpartum appearance. Actress Katrina Kaif, who marked her first public appearance a few days back, was once again spotted during the Ambanis’ Ganesh Chaturthi celebration. Her changed physical appearance became a topic of discussion, with many trolling her and body-shaming her. Reacting to the harsh comments online, actress Sonarika called this culture deeply cruel.

On September 17, 2026, Sonarika uploaded six slides expressing her disappointment and slamming the trolls targeting new moms especially.

Reflecting on how women who have become new moms are being seen, Sonarika said, “There is something deeply cruel about looking at a woman who has just brought life into this world and deciding that her body is now public property. You see the stretch marks. The softness around her stomach. The breasts that no longer look the same. The hair falling out. The face that looks a little more tired than it used to. And you make a joke.”

Highlighting the silent sacrifices and struggles new mothers face, she added, “But you don’t see the body that carried a baby for nine months. You don’t see the nights she spent awake, feeding a tiny human while her own body begged for rest. You don’t see the meals she skipped, the showers she rushed through, the pain she swallowed, the identity she is still trying to find somewhere beneath the word mother.”

Calling out the double standards, Sonarika wrote, “And somehow, in a world that tells women they should sacrifice everything to become mothers, we still expect them to emerge from motherhood looking untouched. As though pregnancy was supposed to change her life-but not her body. As though she owes you the waist she had before. The skin she had before. The breasts she had before. The energy she had before.”

Shaming those making jokes about women in their postpartum, she said, “She owes you nothing. A postpartum body is not a failed version of a woman’s old body. It is evidence. Evidence that something extraordinary happened to her. So before you comment on her weight, ask yourself what kind of person you have to become to find humour in the body of someone who just survived something monumental.”

Encouraging the new moms, Sonarika said, “And if you are the woman reading this while someone is making you feel ashamed of your postpartum body. Please remember: Your body is not ruined. It is not embarrassing. It is not something you need to apologise for. You are not less beautiful because motherhood left its fingerprints on you.”

She further added, “You are simply carrying proof of a chapter that cost you more than anyone will ever fully understand. And one day, I hope we stop teaching women to hate the bodies that carried their children-and start teaching people to have enough compassion to leave those bodies alone.”

Sonarika Bhadoria captioned the post, “A little reminder: Be Kinder Especially to postpartum mothers, she’s already given enough of herself to bring a life into this world. She doesn’t need your comments about her body. She needs grace, compassion, and kindness. Let her heal in peace. You can always choose to say NOTHING. But if you do say something, make sure it doesn’t become another wound someone has to carry.”

She also added, “And a little reminder for all the glorious Mamas out there: You are a mother. You are powerful. You are worthy. And you do not need to shrink, change, or apologise for what it took to bring life into this world. Stand tall. Take up space. Love yourself fiercely. Your postpartum body is not your shame – it is your story, your strength, your proof.”

Sonarika’s outspoken defense joins a massive wave of support from fans, creators, and fellow industry peers who are actively pushing back against the impossible physical standards imposed on women post-pregnancy.
