Czarina of Television, Ekta Kapoor is back in the reckoning again with the cult concept Naagin. This time around, Ekta Kapoor has derived inspiration from the ongoing pandemic phase and has taken ‘mahamari’ as the main concept that the Naagin will be battling with, in Naagin 6 that airs on Colors.

Answering the media questions on why and how she decided to take the concept of Covid as her underlining topic in Naagin 6, she said, “This phase of the pandemic has been a changing time in history. I knew that there was something new in the first three editions of Naagin that we made. However, I found that something was lacking in the next few seasons that got launched. So there was this need of doing something different. The Naagin could not do the same thing of taking badla. So I had to show Naagin doing something different. A friend of mine proposed the idea of incorporating the Covid issue in the storyline. When I decided to do it, I surely knew that I will get trolled. There was not a moment when I did not feel that I will not be trolled. But I wanted to deal with the scenario where Naagin seeks revenge in order to save the Nation from the mahamari. I have tried to incorporate the element of empathy in the plot.”

When the media asked her how and why did Tejasswi Prakash get selected for Naagin, Ekta revealed, “There is so much work in the industry. But the faces we want are presently doing web. Also, there are a lot of new faces. For Naagin, there was this process where we saw through a lot of the vivacious faces to play Naagins. But we wanted that spark that we found in Tejasswi Prakash. I had never met her before Bigg Boss began. I saw her in the show and liked her a lot. I spoke to her manager and finalized her role. I will say that I am happy with Tejasswi’s casting. I wanted someone who was very vivacious and innocent. There is Mahekk also in the show. There will be big twists though in the show about Shesh Naagin.”

When asked about the pressure attached to making Naagin, Ekta explained, “Anything that works in the first season creates pressure when the second edition is being made. Having said this, the pressure on me was very much less this time around. Frankly speaking, I knew that the Seasons of 4 and 5 did not rate as well as the seasons of 1, 2 and 3 did. So I am in ground zero now as far as the success rate is concerned. This prompted me to do whatever I wanted to do. This worked for me in one way.”

Best of luck, Ekta and team for Naagin 6!!
