The eighth day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Mahagauri, the eighth form of Maa Durga. Devotees worship her for her association with purity, peace and spiritual transformation.

According to tradition, Parvati performed years of severe penance to be united with Lord Shiva. The hardship left her body dark and covered in dust. Pleased with her devotion, Lord Shiva bathed her in the waters of the Ganga, and she emerged radiant and luminous, fair as the moon, the conch and the jasmine. She came to be known as Mahagauri.

She is pictured in white, calm and serene, seated on a white bull. In her four hands she holds a trident and a damaru, while her other two hands rest in gestures of blessing and protection.

Her story is one of transformation. What the journey took from her, devotion gave back with a light that no hardship could dim. That is why devotees turn to her on the eighth day, seeking a clear mind, a peaceful heart and a fresh start.

A gentle echo of that spirit lives in Star Plus’ Apsara, where Sunehri, played by Samiksha Jaiswal, is a girl who is quietly changing. The world around her may be restless, but there is a calm that grows within her with every step. Samiksha says, “Sunehri is changing, slowly and quietly. What moves me is the peace she finds within herself while everything around her keeps shifting.”
