The fourth season of Ekta Kapoor’s much-awaited show Naagin premiered on December 14 and received a mixed response from the audience. While some felt the show had nothing new to offer, others couldn’t stop praising the actors and the plot. While all the actors won applause for their acting chops, there were some who didn’t enjoy the weekend offering as much.

Naagin has been this successful franchise due to its concept. Stories revolving around ichchadhari naagins have always intrigued Indian viewers. Ekta Kapoor’s series is inspired by the 1976 film Nagin, which starred Reena Roy in lead along with Ekta’s father Jeetendra and actors like Sunil Dutt, Feroz Khan, Rekha, Vinod Mehra, and Kabir Bedi. The film was a huge hit and its popular song Tere Sang Pyar Main Nahin Todna has been used in all the four seasons of Naagin.

Naagin, which is a tale of love and revenge, has stuck to similar storylines in all three seasons, which has turned out to be their formula for success. And the makers haven’t dared to change it in the fourth season either. The three seasons of Naagin traced the lives of three ichchadhari naagins – Shivanya (played by Mouni Roy), Shivangi (played by Mouni Roy) and Bela (played by Surbhi Joyti).

The supernatural show based on Indian folklore about shape-shifting snakes comprises all the ingredients of a hit TV show: a large joint family, romance, revenge, unexpected twists and suspense.

This time around the show has got fresh faces as part of the star-cast. The list of actors playing pivotal roles includes Nia Sharma, Jasmin Bhasin, Sayantani Ghosh, Shaleen Bhanot, and Vijayendra Kumeria.

While Brinda is a simple and kind-hearted girl, Nayantara is filled with rage and is waiting to strike. However, every story in Naagin is eventually about fighting the evils and protecting the naagmani and keeping it from getting into the hands of evil. Brinda is also an ichchadhari naagin.
