The episode of Anupamaa starts with Anupamaa preparing laddus for Independence day. Samar comes and eats laddu pretending to be asleep. Anupamaa reminds Samar how he would get two laddus on Independence Day after his dance performance. Samar says he learned dancing so he could get laddus. Anupamaa says parents should not keep their students away from national festivals. Toshu is standing behind, Samar says it’s good he stayed as Kinjal needed him. Anupamaa hopes Toshu stays tomorrow as well. The next morning Anupamaa comes out dressed as a Maharashtrian woman, Vanraj and Kavya as a South Indian man and a Muslim woman. Baa and Mamaji are dressed as Rajasthani men and women. Pakhi and Samar as Punjabis. Kinjal is dressed as a Bengali woman, Toshu as a Muslim man and Nandini a Kashmiri girl.
Baa looks at Kavya and compliments her. Baa says they will first celebrate Independence day and then Mamaji’s birthday. Rakhi comes in wearing a gown. Baa says it’s Independence day and not a fancy dress competition. Anupamaa thanks Rakhi for coming. Rakhi says she only celebrates Independence day. She asks Kinjal and Toshu if they have made a decision. Kinjal says they will discuss it later. Vanraj asks Pakhi if she has changed her DP to flag picture, Pakhi. says she has.
Samar says it’s only for a day as they are not soldiers to show patriotism at the border. Anupamaa says they don’t have to fight at the borders to show patriotism. She says benefitting the nation is patriotism. Anupamaa says people complain about the nation’s system being bad but don’t realise they are a part of it. To change the nation they have to first change themselves. Toshu agrees but says India is far away from development. Anupamaa says there are shortcomings in everyone. Baa says just like a mother has flaws but the child still loves her we should also love our mother nation.
Shah family go to flag hoisting and sing Vande Mataram song. After returning from flag hoisting children show their dance performances. After the performance the family brings cake, Mamaji gets happy seeing it and asks who’s birthday it is. Family members say it’s his birthday and he is lucky that the whole nation is celebrating his birthday. Kavya says she used to get irritated with Vanraj’s love towards his family but now realised how valuable it is.
