Some Indian playwrights compare him to Kalidas of Garhwali owing to the efforts he made in popularising drama during his time. Born in 1920 in Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand, he did an MA in English from Allahabad University and join journalism with Pioneer newspaper.

His play Ghar Javain is a humorous and satirical drama written in 1964. The title of the play means the bridegroom living in the bride’s home and is settled there forever. It is a very humorous play in which Lalit provides a couple of messages against alcohol and gambling. This entertaining drama created laughter and was tagged as one of the finest dramas of the Garhwali language.

Ekikaran is another social drama that has been staged in more than 10 cities and towns of Garhwal. It has very interesting dialogue delivery by each character and twist that keeps the audience curious. Khadi Lapata is a satirical and comedy-drama by Lalit Mohan which is an all-time favorite Garhwali comedy stage in most of the cities.

This drama was first staged in October 1958 in Delhi, more than 8 times in Mumbai and numerous times in Garhwal and every time the audience found it fresh and enjoyable. It is considered as one of the greatest drama created in the earth by many playwrights. Some believe that this drama accelerated the Garhwali drama movement in modern times.

His play Bhutan ki Khoj discusses the conflict between Atma ki awaaz and Rivaj ki awaaz. It is a very interesting and attracting drama having well-scripted dialogues. This is one of the bright stars in the modern Garhwali drama world. Lalit has worked with perfection in keeping dialogues as per the characters in all his works.

He has always been successful in creating a balance between relationships, intentions, and circumstances through his power of imagination. His social dramas are relevant even today in the 21st century.
