Theatre shows may not be as popular as mainstream cinema, but they aren’t losing their shine either. And actors from a theatre background have been known for their skills and convincing acting. Today, we bring you list of Marathi actors namely from Sai Tamhankar to Siddharth Chandekar who started their acting career from theatre

Mahesh Manjrekar: One of the most successful actor-directors who has also made a special place for himself in Bollywood, began his acting career in 1984 with the Marathi play ‘Aflatoon’. Manjrekar also produced plays like ‘Dhyanimani’, ‘Doctor Tumhisuddha’, ‘Gidhade’, ‘Akashmaat’, ‘All the Best’, ‘Asecha Amhi Sare’, ‘Tom Ani Jerry’ and more.

Siddharth Chandekar: He started his acting career with stage. Siddharth first performed in the play ‘Popati Chowkat’. He then went on to do one more play ‘Athrava Oont’. We saw Siddharth put up an impressive act in his latest release ‘Bavaare Prem He’ in which he shares screen with actor Urmila-Kanitkar-Kothare.

Atul Kulkarni: The actor’s first stint with acting was during his high school days when he participated in a play. Later while studying at a college in Solapur, Atul joined Natya Aradhana, an amateur theatre group. Post his stint with the group, Atul went on to secure a postgraduate diploma in dramatic arts from National School of Drama, New Delhi. After graduating from NSD in 1995, Atul did his first professional play ‘Gandhi Virudhha Gandhi’ in which he essayed the role of Mahatma Gandhi. The play won him the Best Actor title.

Sai Tamhankar: The actress started her acting career with doing street plays and participating in drama competitions during her college days at her native place Sangli. Her play ‘Aadhe Adhure’ got her the Best Actress award which encouraged Sai to take up acting as a full-time career. Also, it was during the award ceremony of ‘Aadhe Adhure’ that she was offered a role in the Marathi sitcom ‘Ya Gojirvanya Gharat’.
