Ratna Pathak was born on 18th March in the year 1957 in Mumbai. She is a renowned Indian actress and director, best known for her works in Bollywood, television and widely, in theatre. The actress is also known as Ratna Pathak Shah after her marriage in 1982 to Naseeruddin Shah, who is also a Bollywood and theatre star. Her years of expertise in theatre shows when she acts on television or in movies like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na or Khoobsurat. Her debut on television took place in the 1980s through the hit serial Idhar Udhar.

Most fans who know her through Bollywood are not aware that she started her career through theatre first and is quite big in terms of her fame and contributions in the theatre world too. She has done a series of plays in both, Hindi as well as English in the theatrical world. She has also played roles in Gujarati plays. The actress was also one from the 1981 batch of the National School Of Drama in Delhi. She was inspired to enter the theatre world through her mother, Dina Pathak, who worked in Gujarati theatre.
