Rahul Subramanian burst on the stand-up comedy scene in 2015 when he won the YouTube Comedy Hunt with fellow comedian Kumar Varun. Since then there has been no looking back for this guy. A regular on the comedy circuit, he even has his own stand-up special ‘Kal Mein Udega’ on Amazon Prime.
His comedy may come with a disclaimer ‘No message’, but Rahul’s journey has been enough of an inspiration. Some of the things we can learn from the comedian who faced challenges head on to do what he does best:
Follow your passion
Rahul was already working at a reputed firm as a manager when he was offered his dream job at Gorej. But he ended up rejecting it simply because he realized it did not make him happy anymore. Instead he went ahead and pursued his true calling – Comedy. Rahul proves it’s never too late to follow your passion. One step at a time
After rejecting the offer, Rahul kept his previous job but also started doing small stand-up gigs and open mic nights on the side. Success didn’t come overnight for him. He eventually went on to collaborate with his colleague to form a comedy duo called Random Chikibum. It was only after they won a top comedy competition that he came into the spotlight.
Making people laugh is no easy feat. It wasn’t easy for Rahul either. For his first time doing an open mic night, it definitely did not go well for him and he, admittedly, went home crying. However, that did not stop him from getting up the next day and persisting till he perfected his art. And now, look at him strutting on stage with confidence, making people laugh.
Do what you love
He clearly loves what he does. Rahul often collaborates with fellow comedians or even makes sketches being the other half of Random Chikibum but what he enjoys the most is doing stand-up comedy.
