Ab Hoga Hisaab, the Amazon MX Player’s latest offering, is set in Punjab, focusing on the big dreams of the people there who wish to settle their lives, and the only way they think is to go abroad—Canada—and to do so, one can go to any extent. The series, in its 10 episodes, grips viewers, exploring deep emotions, illegal immigration, crimes, and the bigger system that traps innocent lives.

The plot follows Bobby Manocha played by Shaheer Sheikh who returns to Punjab, getting hit by the reality of Canada dreams with unexpected deportation. In contrast, he cannot go back, but he dreams of sending his beloved brother Bunty (played by Avinash Mishra) anyway.

At the same time, there is Goldy Sekhon, played by Sanjay Kapoor, the powerful local politician who projects an image of being clean in front of everyone, but beneath the surface he is the real cause of the issues, running an illegal immigration racket.

However, the story gets truly interesting when Bunty’s girlfriend, Pinky, goes missing while trying to move to Canada. With Bunty’s connection to Pinky, he becomes the target, and things get really deadly as Bobby becomes desperate to find his brother after Bunty’s damaged bike is found.

Direction, Writing, Craft, & More

Divyanshu Malhotra deserves the appreciation for his work. The director maintained a tight grip on the narrative, confidently showcasing the emotions, deadly crimes, and thriller moments. What keeps viewers intrigued is the human trafficking angle, and to be honest, the story thrives on this.

Cinematography is crisp, showcasing scenes with seriousness and realism, making the story feel relevant. Writing is one of the biggest strengths that doesn’t try to impress but relates to viewers, and the credit goes to Radhika Anand, Sudeep Nigam, Faizal Akhtar, Abbas Dalal, and Namit Sharma.

While the series is broadly a crime thriller, at heart it centers on the unconditional, unwavering love between brothers, which proves to be the series’ greatest strength. While we have seen many crime thrillers, this one hits different, with realistic scenes, especially when Bobby gets into action.

Performances

Shaheer Sheikh transforms into this character with ease, making it feel believable. He delivers Bobby with sincerity, especially the accent. The actor deserves appreciation for how smoothly he transformed from a boy who would faint just by seeing blood to turning deadly in the pursuit of finding his brother—just goosebumps-inducing.

Next one is Sanjay Kapoor, who just stole the show as Godly Sekhon. The politician who puts up his image as a clean and good-hearted human in front of all, but beneath, he is the mastermind behind the human trafficking in Punjab. He owns the screen with his strong moments and proves his excellence as an actor.

Avinash Mishra is impressive and undoubtedly charmed the viewers again, but this time his vulnerability and raw emotions hit hard. Harman Singha looks strong and tough, trying to solve the mystery, playing the inspector Dosanjh.

Mouni Roy brings glamour with emotions as Kamna Bharadwaj. Actress Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia commands attention as Gazal Arora. Paramveer Singh Sekhon, Aasheema Vardaan, Eklavey, Vandana Joshi, Nimisha Sirohi, and others significantly contribute to the series with every character owning their space, not feeling messy but apt.

Overall, Ab Hoga Hisaab is a must-watch crime thriller that will keep you intrigued throughout. At the same time, the deep bond between the brothers triggers emotions, as it simultaneously explores deadly crimes and the characters command attention.
