Amid the rise of action thrillers, crime dramas, and high-octane shows, Zee 5’s series Bakaiti Season 2 is a breath of fresh air that entertains you to the fullest without making bold or harsh attempts to grab your attention with its slice-of-life family drama.
Season 2 picks up right where it left off, continuing the Kataria family’s story in Ghaziabad with the warmth, chaos, and everyday madness that made the first season a favorite. This time, the series delves deeper into their domestic conflict and emotions while retaining its trademark humor and entertainment quotient.
The Storyline In Season 2
The second part focuses on the financial pressure on Sanjay Kataria (Rajesh Tailang). As he sends his daughter, Naina (Tanya Sharma), to Mumbai for studies, expenses rise, pushing him to take a loan. At the same time, Sushma (Sheeba Chaddha) wants to prioritize her boutique, while their son Bharat falls in love. Furthermore, his disqualification from the cricket team pushes him onto the wrong path.
However, the drama doubles when Sanjay’s brother Ajay (Parvinder Singh) and his family move into the Kataria house. With a lot going on in the background, tension rises for Sanjay, leading to intense family drama, chaos, reconciliation, and entertainment.
What Works In The Series’ Favor
The series plays right on the nostalgia factor. While it brings back the memories of season 1, the second season excels at portraying a lived-in middle-class Indian household. Known for its playful arguments and sibling banter, as well as moments of vulnerability, the show keeps its characters grounded and recognizable while still feeling oddly entertaining.
The drama’s biggest strength is its screenplay. Director Samar Iqbal skillfully avoids relying on excessive melodrama; instead, he lets the relationships and situations drive the entertainment. At its heart, the series remains a simple slice-of-life family drama that finds humor and emotion in ordinary situations.
The writing is good; visually, the seven-episode series is delightful. Though the series doesn’t leave a lasting impact, it’s something the audience will love to return to.
Performances
Rajesh Tailang makes an impactful comeback. For a show like Bakaiti, acting is difficult because recreating the daily life of a middle-class family may seem easy, but it isn’t. Tailang effortlessly channels Sanjay’s vulnerabilities, creating a profound, empathetic connection with the viewer.
Sheeba Chaddha is no exception. As a mother who silently battles her own fight, she notices the issues around her in her family without creating a scene, unlike what happens in daily soaps. Her performance stands out.
Tanya Sharma brings great screen presence and effortlessly delivers a convincing performance as Naina. Parvinder Singh, Poonam Jangra, Shashwat Chaturvedi, and the rest of the supporting characters bring the story to life, making it relatable and realistic.
