Kaptaan, Amazon MX Player’s new offering, is a blend of high-voltage drama, action, crime, power battles, and personal struggles, woven into a narrative that will keep you hooked. The premises open on an intense note with a criminal named Bhaiya Ji running away just minutes before he was about to reach court, and the SSP Samardeep, played by Saqib Saleem, gets questioned by the media for being unable to serve justice to those children missing.
However, the surprise begins from the first few minutes itself, as what seems to be a criminal running away turns out to be a plot where SSP Samar himself helps Bhaiya Ji run, just to trap him, and, with his own treatment, gets the whereabouts of the children. And after he wins the mission, Samar doesn’t spare Bhaiya Ji; he ends Bhaiya Ji’s life in an encounter, serving justice in his own way.
The best part is that the storyline has interesting twists on every turn as Samar isn’t just bold, blunt, and honest, but he also deals with his own past traumas, losing his younger brother in a criminal incident where Samar couldn’t save, and he still carries the weight even after 12 years. His wife, Soniya, played by Pooja Gor, a vocal journalist, questions Samar about his tactics for serving justice, which creates a rift in their relationship.
However, the plot is more than what it seems in the beginning, as the story explores the darkness of Jwalabad, where the battle of power and control between Shaheen and Munna, who wish to rule the city, takes place, and there comes a big opportunity to fully capture the place with a big deal. While crime, wrongdoing, and illegal activities escalate tension, the police officer played by Kavita Kaushik tries to handle it, only for SSP Samar to arrive, setting in motion a major plot twist as Shaheen uses his trump card, Kabir played by Siddharth Nigam, against Samar.
With its blend of action, intrigue, rivalry, battle of power, and emotional tones, Kaptaan delivers a gripping drama that keeps one invested. Major credit goes to the actors bringing the story to life with their performance.
IWMBuzz rates Kaptaan 4 out of 5 stars.
