With Meethe Mein Kya Hai, Netflix has kicked off the festive season—even before Diwali—with a sweet, emotional touch. The film is simple, and that is precisely its strength. So, is it worth a watch? Let’s find out.

A Relatable, Festive Storyline

The story unfolds over four days of Diwali celebrations at the Lucknow home of the family matriarch, Nani (Rohini Hattangady). At the center of the narrative is Jai (Ritwik Bhowmik), an interior designer quietly drowning in grief after losing his wife, Tara (Kanika Kapoor), in a sudden accident. Living a reclusive life in Delhi, Jai plans to relocate to Georgia for a fresh start.

However, his plans are derailed by a surprise phone call from his free-spirited sister, Sana (Dalai). She drops a massive bombshell: she has secretly gotten married, and the rest of the family has absolutely no clue. When Nani summons the entire clan to Lucknow for Diwali, Jai and Sana return home to face their parents. The festive cheer quickly turns into a storm of comedy and chaos when Sana reveals that her new husband is a divorcee with a child. What happens next is a sweet, unexpected treat you must watch for yourself.

Direction

Written and directed by debutant Radhika Bansal, she makes a good attempt to blend slice-of-life drama with a festive pinch. Bansal keeps the film’s emotional core grounded, capturing how Indian parents often blur the line between concern and control, heartbreak, and how nosy relatives always have an opinion on everything.

While the familiar setting offers cozy comfort, viewers expecting high-octane drama out of Sana’s marriage announcement might feel underwhelmed. The filmThe film maintains a slow, subtle tone—not trying to grip with harsh twists. While it’s good, the screenplay could have been much better.

The film wastes no time introducing the main conflict, but it loses pace in between. Fortunately, well-timed humor and witty one-liners lift the narrative whenever it begins to drag.

Performances

Ritwik Bhowmik delivers a deeply sincere performance, capturing Jai’s silent grief and emotional vulnerability with immense ease. But his character arc feels slightly underwritten. Dalai as Sana is impressive and portrays her independence and confidence beautifully. Their siblings’ bond is also heartwarming.

Kanika Kapoor is gorgeous. Though she appeared in a few frames, her character made its way to the heart. From Ayesha Raza and Gaurav Sharma to Vikram Bakshi, Shivika Rishi, and Rohini Hattangady, their characters command attention.

Overall, Meethe Mein Kya Hai has all the right ingredients for a comforting, heartwarming family watch despite its minor structural flaws. It definitely deserves a spot on your weekend watchlist.
