Sabrina, a tarot card reader whose unusual way of using her abilities has made her both powerful and controversial, becomes the center of a murder mystery after she is killed by her teacher, Sulekha. Aradhana Sharma leads the story as the secretary Nirali, who quickly finds herself trapped in a web of suspicion after her confrontation with Sabrina on the day of the murder. With evidence seemingly stacked against her, the show initially takes the familiar route of a murder investigation, but soon introduces an unexpected dose of comedy and confusion.
The real shift comes with Aditya Lakhia’s Udta Pathan, a cop who goes undercover. At the same time, his two bumbling constables, Bunty and Ghanti, accidentally encounter gangster JJ, who happens to be his lookalike. What follows is an entertaining identity mix-up when JJ pretends to be Udta Pathan and is brought to the police station. Rather than simply using the situation to escape, JJ gets invested in Nirali’s case and decides to prove her innocence.
The investigation becomes more intriguing because Nirali’s relationship with her cancer-survivor boyfriend adds an emotional layer to the mystery. JJ’s belief that her devotion to the man she loves makes her unlikely to destroy their future becomes one of the key observations driving his investigation. From there, the story throws multiple possibilities into the mix, including a business rival, a wronged boyfriend, a powerful industrialist, and questions surrounding Sabrina’s own state of mind.
The biggest strength of Do Aur Do Paanch is its attempt to balance murder mystery, mistaken identity, and comedy without making the investigation completely predictable. Aditya Lakhia brings an entertaining presence to Udta Pathan/JJ, while the supporting cast adds to the chaotic tone. The bumbling constables provide comic relief and prevent the narrative from becoming too heavy.
However, the show also has its share of weaknesses. Some twists feel convenient rather than organically developed, and the tonal shifts between murder mystery and slapstick comedy can occasionally make the narrative feel uneven.
The investigation could also have benefited from stronger character development and more convincing clues, particularly because the central murder mystery has enough material to sustain a sharper thriller.
Still, Do Aur Do Paanch works best when it embraces its quirky premise rather than trying to become a conventional crime drama. It offers a mix of mystery, comedy, mistaken identity and emotional stakes, making it a reasonably engaging watch for viewers who enjoy light-hearted detective stories with unexpected turns.
