Netflix’s new web series Glory is a powerful blend of action, revenge, rivalry, mystery, and dysfunctional family set against a Harayanvi backdrop with boxing drama at its core. Karan Anshuman and Karmanya Ahuja created the seven-episode thriller series, which Anshuman and Kanishk Varma direct. The plot begins by introducing Devinder (Divyenndu) and Ravinder (Pulkit Samrat), the two brothers who lived separately from their coach father Raghubir.
Set against the Haryanvi backdrop, the makers highlight the Haryanvi culture not just through the language but also through energy, culture, and spark. What sets the stage for the drama ahead is the death of an Olympic hopeful, Nihal Singh, being coached by Raghubir (Suvinder Vicky).
But this doesn’t enrage Raghubir’s sons, Dev and Ravi; it’s the attack on their beloved sister, Gudiya (Jannat Zubair Rehmani), that makes them furious and makes them return to their hometown, Shaktigarh. What comes ahead is predictable; however, the way the makers unfold the drama, trying to solve the mystery behind the murder and the ambition to win the Olympics, twists the narrative in a way that keeps the viewers on the edge.
No matter what your favorite genre is, this boxing drama takes you on a ride that you wish to get off only at the end.
Divyenndu is undoubtedly a treat to watch as Dev, balancing his personality from being a short-tempered guy to an emotional brother. His character is unpredictable, fiery, and tough, adding tension to the story.
Pulkit Samrat gives one of his best performances as Ravi. He is calm yet turns deadly when triggered. The actor is ruling hearts, showcasing all the shades from being a strong boxer, a loving brother, to being a calm personality.
Jannat Zubair makes her comeback in acting with a bang. Her character of Gudiya adds emotional depth with courage and strength.
Kashmira brings her charm and impresses with her silence and emotional depth. While Sayani Gupta yet again rules as a journalist, Joyna.
Actor Ashutosh Rana, as Viju, is commanding, unapologetic, and strong. Sikander delivers his best. Suvinder Pal Vicky is courageous, strong, and connects with the viewers.
The cinematography beautifully focuses on the details, highlighting the dark world of boxing with family drama, revenge, rivalry, and action. Keeping it crisp through editing, the makers show raw emotions that resonate with the audience.
The murder sequence, to be specific, will shake you, while Divyenndu’s reaction to seeing his sister on the deathbed is heart-pounding. Overall, Glory is a fiery, powerful, engaging, and true entertainer.
IWMBuzz rates Netflix’s Glory 3.5 out of 5 stars.
