Perfect Family, Sony LIV’s latest series, is a smartly written storyline that showcases the harsh truth behind the closed doors of a respectable household and the consequences of a troubled home on one’s mind. The series showcases the underlying conflicts and misunderstandings among the Karkaria family. The drama is produced by Pankaj Tripathi, who marks his debut as a producer, and Ajay Rai under the banner JAR Pictures. The series is now streaming on Sony LIV from June 26, 2026. The series stars Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, Gulshan Devaiah, Neha Dhupia, Girija Oak Godbole, Kaveri Seth, and Hitva Trivedi.
The Plot
The series follows the Karkaria family in Delhi. But a family that appears ideal from the outside: underneath, each member struggles with their own issues. While everything looks sweet on the surface, the misunderstandings and drama get real behind closed doors. As Vishnu (Gulshan Devaiah) and Neeti Girija Oak Godbole) wish to move out of the house, which creates tension as Vishnu’s father, Somnath (Manoj Pahwa), opposes the idea. As Somnath, Vishnu, Neeti, and Pooja (Kaveri Seth) get into an argument, the 12-year-old Daani (Hirva Trivedi) watches it all and feels disappointed. However, things shook up when Daani fainted in school with anxiety, stemming from household stress. Following this, the Karkaria family is asked to undergo mandatory therapy that unveils the underlying issues and the root cause of mental stress. Then comes the psychotherapist Megha (Neha Dhupia), who becomes the catalyst in the storyline.
What works
The series tells a strong and very crucial message about anxiety and stress. Often, anxiety and depression stem from the kind of atmosphere we live in. And with Daani, it was surely not very good for her brain. The show effectively tries to highlight the negative impact of elders’ fight leave on the children, which may not just trouble them temporarily but may also become a lifetime trauma. Director Sachin Pathak brings this crucial topic to the screen with minute detail that resonates with the viewers.
What doesn’t work
While the series effectively focuses on the troubled home drama, sometimes it fails to leave an impact. The series flows smoothly, and it will be interesting to see how the makers shape the story, while the first two episodes look engaging and send a crucial message.
Performances
Manoj Pahwa as Somnath is aggressive, abusive, and funny. His character plays a key role in the storyline and the conflict, while Seema Pahwa as Kamla is dramatic and hilarious. Gulshan Devaiah portrays his character with sincerity and doesn’t feel too much, while Girija Oak Godbole as Neeti is strong, blunt, and effective. Kaveri Seth plays her layered character with ease. Neha Dhupia as Megha looks effortless. We have seen her speak on such issues, and this seems like a piece of cake for her.
Overall, Perfect Family is a series that one must watch not because of its excellence in storytelling but for the crucial topic of mental health and troubled homes it touches, which need wider discussion and understanding.
