We may think scams are a new-age thing, but it’s not entirely true; the ratio has increased with technology, making it easy for scamsters to find their prey. Prime Video’s latest web series, The Pyramid Scheme, created by TVF, is a modern-day financial scam story about people who desperately attempt to become rich quickly. If you are one of those who have become victims of this, it will resonate deeply with you. The web series explores themes of ambition, greed, betrayal, and emotions, showcasing the harsh realities of financial scams.
Plot
The web series follows the life of Goldy, played by Paramveer Singh Cheema, a boy who runs a small business but is trapped in debt. And that’s not the worst part; he often gets humiliated by the people around him, and many loiter at his shop whenever they feel like it. Frustrated, hopeless, and upset, Goldy meets a man named Sunil Chauhan, played by Sadanand Patil, and from here everything changes forever.
Godly is pumped by the motivational video Sunil shows him. The video features a business guru, Tarun Bajaj, played by Shekar Suman, who triggers Godly with his one line, “Garib Hona Paap Hai”. Driven by his ambition to become rich and easy money, he gets trapped in the MLM (multi-level marketing) trap—JumboLife.
And this sets the stage for what’s stored in for the viewers, as with the pursuit of easy money, Goldy partners with Manoj Srivastava, played by Ranvir Shorey. Manoj is an ex-school teacher who gets thrown out because of making reels, but he quickly transforms into a pro MLM leader. While this seems like a good sailing story, the plot twist with Goldy and Manoj’s partnership brings chaos ahead.
Performances
Paramveer Singh Cheema as Goldy brings the character to life effortlessly. He shows the desperation, frustration, and fire in his layered character well. He is the center of the story and does his best to keep it engaging.
Ranvir Shorey steals the spotlight as he transforms himself from an ex-teacher who gets fired to becoming a pro MLM leader. He commands attention with his high energy and impressive hold on his character. With her performance, the actor yet again proves why he is hailed as one of the finest actors.
The biggest strength of the series is the cast ensemble; not just the leads, but the supporting characters’ contributions make this one a worthy watch. From Aanjjan Srivastav, Akhilendra Mishra to Ashish Raghav and others—every character in the series plays a crucial part in the storyline.
Direction, Craft And Screenplay
The Pyramid Scheme is a series that one must watch. Why? Because it not just delivers engaging drama and entertainment but also exposes the realities of financial scams. The series, in the first half, goes well, with funny, engaging, and relatable elements, while in the middle the pace slows, but directors Shreyansh Pandey and Ashish R Shukla quickly hit viewers with surprises that change the whole mood.
Every episode ends with the question What’s next? And this drives the flow. However, with raw emotions, a smartly written screenplay, powerful dialogues, and entertaining characters, the series keeps you hooked.
Overall, The Pyramid Scheme isn’t just an engaging scam drama to entertain; it’s an eye-opening watch that balances ambition, comedy, and harsh realities, and is worth your time.
IWMBuzz rates The Pyramid Scheme 3.5 out of 5 stars!
