After winning the hearts of millions at the Cannes International Film Festival this year, young and talented cinematographer Modhura Palit will make her Bollywood debut with author turned director Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s third Hindi film Broken Frame. Modhura was awarded the Pierre Angenieux Excel Lens in Cinematography Special Encouragement at the Cannes, and she was the only personality who attended the festival for her body of work, while other Bollywood celebrities were representing beauty product companies at the red carpet.

“She is an immensely talented technician,” says director Ram Kamal Mukherjee. “I have seen her earlier work and wanted to work with her. When we collaborated on our Bengali film I realized that she is not only fast with her work, but also understands the hue and rhythm of cinema. She is blessed with a unique vision that adds flavor to the narrative,” he added. Modhura will be working with Ram Kamal in her Bollywood debut. “I loved the story of Broken Frame, looking forward to being a part of this project,” says Modhura Palit.

Ram Kamal and Modhura’s association started with their Bengali film Rickshawala, and immediately after that, they decided to collaborate on Hindi film Broken Frame based on Ram Kamal’s short story collection Long Island Iced Tea. Produced by Aritra Das, Gaurav Daga and Shailendra Kumar under the banner of Assorted Motion Pictures and SS1 Entertainments. “It was wonderful working with Ram Kamal in Rickshawala. He gives respect and room for creativity to each and every one. As a director, he is not rigid, and that is something which helps me as a cinematographer,” says Modhura.

The entire credit of connecting the two creative people goes to producer Aritra Das. “Modhura is a fantastic person and extremely understanding. That’s what makes her unique. Being one of few women cinematographers from our country she understands her job and delivers on time. I feel that she has long innings ahead,” says producer Aritra Das.
