The teaser of the much-awaited series Hunkkaar – The Roar was released yesterday, September 1, 2026. The narrative suggests the series is set to deliver a hard-hitting story about injustice, power, and a girl’s fight against a formidable cult leader.
In the teaser, Aneet Padda introduces herself as a minor; Meenu Rawat, a 17-year-old victim of harassment and assault, commands attention, bringing intensity, strength, vulnerability, and determination to her character while seeking justice. What makes it even more interesting are the dark visuals, diverse characters, key moments, and dramatic background score—all of which create an intriguing atmosphere.
But underneath the gripping story, Hunkkaar feels disappointingly familiar. On OTT platforms and even in Bollywood, we have seen a similar battle between an innocent protagonist and a powerful, manipulative figure, following a well-worn, predictable template. And though the teaser sounds intriguing, with strong conflicts and emotional stakes, it doesn’t offer enough freshness to set the story apart from similar revenge-and-justice dramas.
Aneet Padda’s rough-and-tough appearance draws attention, breaking the sweet, gorgeous girl image she had in Saiyaara, yet the teaser relies too heavily on intensity rather than originality. Hunkkaar – The Roar looks promising in parts but ultimately feels like a familiar tale told once too often.
Produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment in association with Purple Pebble Pictures and A Mangata Film Production, Hunkkaar is directed by Karan D. Kapadia, Nitya Mehra, and Heeraz Marfatia and will stream on JioHotstar starting from September 25, 2026.
