Raveena Tandon is all set to take the OTT route with a slick new horror thriller entitled Aranyak. Interestingly Raveena was not at all keen on going digital until the series’ producers Siddharth Roy Kapur persuaded her that the OTT was the present and future of cinema.

Raveena plays a tough uncompromising cop named Kasturi Dogra who is called to crack a murder case when a foreigner is slayed. Raveena had to undergo a rigorous regime of rehearsals to get her cop’s body language and other details right.

“I didn’t want to look fake in that revered khaki uniform,” Raveena says , adding that Aranyak was one of her most challenging roles.

Having talented co-stars like Meghna Malik and Ashutosh Rana helped Raveena get to the crux of her character. Parambrata Chatterjee who has made a career in Hindi cinema playing the supporting role to female heroes Vidya Balan in Kahaani, Anushka Sharma in Pari is Raveena’s partner in crime-solving

Aranyak starts streaming from December 10. Curiously Rohan Sippy, son of the illustrious Ramesh Sippy, is billed in Aranyak as “showrunner”. What on earth does that mean, specially since someone else (Vinayak Vaikul) is credited as director?

As Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently observed producing OTT content has become a dhanda(racket) for big production houses. Some of these producers are signing multi -crore deals with the big streaming platforms. As per these deals production houses are supposed to provide multiple serials over a specific time-frame.

I hope “showrunner” Rohan Sippy has something worthwhile to offer in Aranyak. Audiences are in no mood for trash.
