An overhead video taken by Dainik Bhaskar journalist Praveen Thakur reveals the deplorable state of National Highway 227, which runs through the Madhubani region of Bihar. Particularly here, the Kaluahi-Basopatti-Harlakhi joint route is littered with enormous potholes.
Political analyst Prashant Kishor, a vocal opponent of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, expressed his opinion about the crumbling road that appears as if it belongs in a catastrophe movie. It’s being compared to the well-known TV game show Takeshi’s Castle. One of the most popular kid’s reality shows featuring terrible entertainment and physical challenges is currently airing in Bihar, according to a joke on Twitter. This section of National Highway 227 (L), in the Madhubani region of Bihar, is reminiscent of the state of the roads during the Jungle Raj in the 1990s. Nitish Kumar Ji recently advised the members of the road construction department at a gathering to spread the word about the excellent state of Bihar’s roads.
The Dainik Bhaskar report claims that the road has been in utter disrepair since 2015. Three different tenders have been altered to fix it, but all contractors are now absent, and the work is still unfinished.
In a speech two weeks ago, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that by December 2024, Bihar’s road system would be on par with that of the United States. It was inaugurated on the eastern flank of the rebuilt Mahatma Gandhi Setu over the River Ganga at Hajipur, the state of Bihar’s road network demonstrated the significant development that has occurred in recent years.
A total of 4,775 and 3,564 accidents were reportedly caused by potholes in 2019 and 2020, respectively, according to reports from the Indian government. In a 2018 Guardian article, potholes on Indian roadways were described as significantly more deadly than terrorism.
