After buying Twitter for $44 billion in one of the most contentious corporate deals ever, you’d think Elon Musk would want to hide. Instead, he turned up at the Met Gala in 2022, accompanied by some support. On May 2, the billionaire Tesla inventor took his supermodel mother, Maye Musk, to fashion’s biggest night. He told Entertainment Tonight, “My mum wanted to come, so I invited my mom!” “It’s for that reason alone.”

Elon went all out on the red carpet, making goofy faces at the cameras and socializing with celebrities like Billie Eilish and Kris Jenner, who had his bow tie changed during one of their interactions. Elon justified his Twitter purchase to ET on the red carpet, claiming he “does a lot of things philanthropically” and wants to include Twitter in that purpose. “In reality, my businesses are designed to benefit humanity’s future,” he remarked. “Aspirationally, I’m attempting to do good for mankind and civilization’s future.”

While some Twitter users praised his Met outing, others wondered why he was even there (and why he was making those funny faces).

Elon Musk and Kris Jenner, who arrived soon after the Musks and proceeded to straighten his bow tie before walking the red carpet, were seen on camera by a TikTok user. Take a peek at the video below for more information.
