If this is your first time participating in the battle royale, getting tips on how to play Fortnite is a terrific way to get ready for the fight. Although the fundamentals are easy to understand, there are many different systems to learn as you explore the island, which can be frightening for newcomers. This is especially true considering that there are millions of people online who already have months or even years of expertise to draw upon. But don’t let that get you down; unless you do it, you won’t know how you’ll do, and you might even surprise yourself!

You can use this helpful Fortnite beginner’s guide as a resource to learn all the fundamental information you need, so whenever you glide down to the island, you’ll have a strong foundation to build from.

How to play Fortnite for absolute beginners

This Fortnite beginner’s guide will point you in the right way as you prepare for your first Victory Royale. The game is continually evolving with Fortnite Season 3, and even though the island has altered substantially over time, the essential principles remain largely unchanged.

1. You can’t take the things you pick up on Spawn Island with you

In Spawn Island, there are weapons, ammo, and building supplies lying around that are begging to be taken. They are also yours to take, but they won’t follow you into the Fortnite map.

2. Wait as long as possible to drop from the Battle Bus

As soon as you can drop from the Battle Bus onto the map below, the horn will start to honk, but you should resist the impulse to join the group of players who immediately jump from it. Wait to jump out until there are roughly 3 seconds left before the Battle Bus reaches the conclusion of its flight path.

3. Your glider deploys automatically

There is no way to delay the deployment of your glider while exiting the Battle Bus because it opens as soon as you cross a set distance above the ground below.

4. Drink small shield potions before glugging a large one

You can press your right trigger to drink the tiny and large blue bottles scattered throughout the game; doing so will provide you with 25 and 50 shields, respectively (the same button you use for firing your gun). Make sure to drink the little bottles before storing them in your inventory so they don’t take up space after you reach 50 or higher shields.
