Indian origin photographer Kormiyaki Lamarr, who is making it big in the west, reveals that he is immensely inspired by his late grandfather Honsen Lyngdoh, who was a tribal Khasi philanthropist and died at the age of 81 in 2018 and his mother Sambha Lamarr, who founded CALM (Creative Art, Literature and Music) festival in Shillong in 2012. At the age of 47 she passed away in 2016. It was his mother, who got Chetan Bhagat, Shobha De, MJ Akbar amongst many other celebrities and actors from India to the festival. She also got several creative writers from Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Dehradun etc. to the fest.

Kormiya’s grandfather was very well known in remotest villages for constructing roads on his own expenditure.

This used to help a lot in connecting the villages with State National Highways and roads respectively.

The roads were actually the lifeline of most of the local and interior parts of the villages and even named by the living locals of that particular area as Honsen Roads.

He was born on March 16, 1936 in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, his grandfather Lyngdoh was a winner of the Silver Elephant Award from President Pranab Mukherjee in 2015 in recognition of his contribution to the Guides and Scouts movement.

Conferred with the title of the Life Time Achievement Awards by 5th North-East Consumer Awards for social entrepreneurship and followed by the National Citizen’s Award in 1991 for the contribution he did in the development of northeastern states as well.

Talking about his grandparents, Kormiyaki Lamarr says, “My mother and my grandfather are my biggest inspiration, sadly both are no longer with me today but they still play a big roll in my life. My grandfather had a big heart and a very humble beginning. His headstrong mindset is one of the qualities he possessed which inspire me till date. He always motivated me to do what I love and encouraged me to pursue my passion in photography.”

“Our grandparents are our parents’ parents so there’s already much more we can learn to look forward too from their lives whether they are with us or have passed away,” he adds.
