This Friday saw the release of Ek Villain Returns, Arjun Kapoor’s first theatrical film in two years. The actor is getting fitter with each new photo he posts on social media after lately sharing photographs of his dramatic physique change.

Arjun, though, has endured a lot of bullying throughout the years because of his size. He discusses what motivated him to take his health more seriously in this interview, as well as the effect trolling had on him. The actor claims that those who criticize should realize the impact their words can have on others. “Maybe for them, it’s just a joke, but it can scar someone, affect them emotionally, and torment them,” he says. The pandemic, according to Arjun, has revitalized him; he now feels like a novice advertising his movie. “Post the pandemic, I feel like a novice,” he claims. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, which I last had in theatres in 2019, was followed by a few digital releases.

In his ten-year career in Bollywood, Arjun has had both successes and failures, but he is working even harder on his upcoming project. “I feel you can’t sit and mope or sit and brag,” he says. If things are going well, you can’t relax, and you shouldn’t feel depressed just because one Friday didn’t go as planned. I’ve learned from the environment I’ve grown up in that no matter your success or failure, you shouldn’t alter on Friday. With movies like Ishaqzaade and Ki And Ka, among others, Arjun has seen success, but he has also encountered failure with a few of his more recent releases, including Panipat, Namaste England, and a few more. However, he claims that while learning from his mistakes, he doesn’t let work get in the way of his enjoyment of it.

He claims, “I adore working. I believe that the devil’s workshop is an empty mind, and in my situation, this is absolutely true. I won’t be of any service to myself or anyone else if I stay at home and do nothing. I am alive while I am working and being active. I become a better person as I go forward and discover a better version of myself to present on the screen.” The actor continued by describing how his life is in harmony and how he is eager to take on new projects. However, he carefully selects his work and takes constructive criticism to heart. “Recently, I’ve been able to balance my life,” he says. “The first confinement is what caused it because I realized I needed to look after myself properly. You must never lose sight of the importance of loving oneself. After ten years, that balance has emerged, making things a little simpler, but I’ve always pushed to advance since I enjoy my profession. After ten years, that balance has emerged, making things a little simpler, but I’ve always pushed to advance since I enjoy my profession. I believe an actor can make mistakes; you can’t always be hard on yourself, and you can’t think the audience is incorrect or that they aren’t enjoying what you’re doing (your work). There is no harm in acknowledging that fact and promising to try harder the next time.”

The actor claims that sharing the photographs on social media was not an easy choice while discussing his physical metamorphosis. “Since we put ourselves out there on social media, we have allowed you access to our life. People can now easily communicate their opinions because they are so easily available. People today, in my opinion, don’t seem to be aware of what they write or say since, to them, it’s simply a joke or a game they’re playing while they relax. They are unaware of the power their words have to physically harm, emotionally traumatize, or afflict another person.”

Then, Arjun describes how he gave himself the time and attention he needed throughout the lockdowns brought on by Covid-19. He says, “I was actually able to put structure in and comprehend the comments throughout the lockdown. I take constructive criticism more seriously than trolling. I’m referring to those around me, the media, and those I respect and appreciate who truly care if my films don’t succeed. Achieving better health and fitness in life is a success. It is a success to work on yourself in order to be the best version of yourself. Furthermore, nobody may make fun of you since your physique is imperfect.”
