Jennifer Hudson, who played Grizabella in the Broadway musical “Cats,” believes the film was “misunderstood.” ‘Cats’ is a musical fantasy film based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning stage musical of the same name, which was based on T.S. ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats,’ a poetry anthology by T.S. Eliot.

“It was fantastic that you inquired about Cats! What’s more?” Jennifer Hudson told Total Film, “It was a little intimidating.” “It’s sad that it was misunderstood,” Jennifer Hudson added. “People will perceive it differently in the future, I believe. But it’s still something I’m proud of, and I’m grateful to have been a part of it. Yes, I was given the opportunity to play Grizabella the Glamour Cat!”

Hudson previously stated that the live-action adaptation of “Cats” is “something very spectacular.” Hudson was so taken with the experiment that she adopted two cats of her own, one named after her character and the other after Macavity, Idris Elba’s magnificent teleporting feline. “They’re the most delectable foods I’ve ever encountered. I hold a special place in my heart for them.”

Respect is Hudson’s next musical project, on which she also serves as executive producer. “It’s the greatest honor, and it’s terrifying at the same time,” she adds of her role as Franklin. “I had to calm myself during filming by telling myself, ‘If Aretha Franklin says I can do this, then I can do it.’

Because you can’t just wake up one day and say, ‘I’m going to be Aretha Franklin.’ It doesn’t work like that, you know? My only goal is to make her proud, and if she says she wants me to play her, it must be something within me that she sees.”
