“DTF St. Louis” is exactly the kind of weird, suburban fever dream you’d expect. Starring Steven Conrad, Joy Sunday, Linda Cardellini, Jason Bateman, David Harbour and others, it is a murder mystery that can give your boredom a toss. The first episode, titled “Cornhole,” doesn’t just dip its toes into the shallow end of marital malaise—it shoots straight into the deep, dark waters of midlife regret and murder.

We’re introduced to Clark Forrest, a local weatherman and Floyd Smernitch, an ASL interpreter played by David Harbour, whose deadpan delivery is as dry as the Missouri River in August.

Their friendship is pure, suburban magic: think cornhole tournaments, backyard beers, and the kind of glances that say, “I also regret my life choices.” But things go off the track when Clark introduces Floyd to “DTF St. Louis,” a fictional app for married folks seeking a little extracurricular excitement. However, nobody really finds happiness.

The murder reveal hits—Floyd’s dead, face-down in a pool house, killed by a mysterious overdose of Amphezyne. The two detectives, played with grandeur by Richard Jenkins and Joy Sunday, immediately zero in on Clark and his suspiciously conspicuous recumbent bike.

But here’s the kicker: Clark was secretly sleeping with Floyd’s wife, Carol, and Floyd knew it all along. The final scene—Floyd signing “I know you are fucking my wife”—is both hilarious and deeply sad, which pretty much sums up the show’s vibe.

“Cornhole” is a darkly comic, offbeat take on murder and marriage. It has a sly sense of humour and a cast that’s clearly having the time of their lives. If you like your crime stories with a side of existential dread and lawn games, “DTF St. Louis” might be your new obsession. First episode on Jio Hotstar.
