What makes a successful love story? Well, it’s simple and basic—the one that connects with genuine emotions, fiery, strong chemistry, meaningful conflict, vulnerability, and real touch. And the latest released ‘Ek Din’ produced by Aamir Khan Productions struggles to match up to all these expectations.
Ek Din is an official remake of the 2016 Thai film One Day, which was a hit at the time. But if we talk about the remake, it’s not the same this time. And the reason, why? Well, it loses major interest because the plot and story don’t feel fresh, and in today’s time, the audience craves freshness the most. Now, no fans want to just see their favorites on-screen; they also want new stories that feel engaging and worth their time.
Junaid Khan, the son of one of the most popular actors, Aamir Khan, carved out a niche for himself with his debut in Maharaj. As an actor, he is hailed, but his attempt to rule hearts with a love story failed with Loveyapa. In Ek Din, he did justice to his character as Dinesh, a nerdy, simple, and invisible office guy who is secretly in love with a colleague, Meera.
Meera, played by Sai Pallavi, is a celebrated actress in the South cinema. She has now marked her debut in Hindi films with Ek Din, and undoubtedly, the actress beautifully portrayed her character.
But as a pair, Junaid and Sai together don’t give that ‘true love’ vibe. They may look their best with their individual character, but the fire doesn’t really spark when it comes to chemistry. Despite that, the story is beautiful and also a treat for especially one-sided lovers—showcasing passion, vulnerability, drama, and sacrifice.
Actor Kunal Kapoor plays a key role in the love saga. His character plays as the catalyst that brings in drama.
Though the film struggles at some points, it fairly entertains with emotional depth. The key point of the whole film is just that one day Dinesh and Meera spend together, and that one feeling the audience will take with them when they walk out of the theatre.
Directed by Sunil Pandey, the film fairly shows what a person in love looks like. To be honest, liked the sequences placed, creating a compelling storyline. While dialogues are well written. Overall, Ek Din is a decent watch; just like the name suggests, it’s a one-time watch.
IWMBuzz rates ‘Ek Din’ 2.5 out of 5 stars.
