Tennis champion Sania Mirza recently made headlines with viral reports of her donating land for a masjid. The rumors quickly spread across social media, accompanied by a picture claiming that former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin laid the foundation stone on land originally meant for a tennis training center.

As the claims circulated quickly, the sportswoman’s father, Imran Mirza, has come forward to deny the viral reports and said that if Sania does any philanthropic work, it will remain a private matter.

On October 29, 2026, Imran took to his Instagram and uploaded a screenshot of a WhatsApp message to set the record straight and clear up the distorted news.

Addressing the fake news circulating about Sania, the note reads, “There is distorted fake news about Sania Mirza that has been doing the rounds on social media for the last few days, and I’d like to clarify.”

To clarify the situation, Imran Mirza said the viral imagery circulating online is entirely fake: “The picture of Mr. Azharuddin and Sania that has gone viral is AI-generated.”

He further clarified that no such construction project is taking place on their family property: “While Sania has every right to use any land bought by her or her family in any manner that she may deem fit, I wish to state that there is no masjid that is being built on the land where Sania Mirza Tennis Academy has been constructed.”

Concluding the note, Imran emphasized that his daughter’s philanthropic efforts have always been handled discreetly: “Any social or philanthropic work that Sania does now or in the future, or which she has done in the past, is and will remain her private and personal matter. Nobody has the right to publicize it, particularly if Sania has not verified it herself.”
