Aamir Khan, the charming and talented superstar of Bollywood, is known not only for his acting but also for producing big hits. However, the star, once known for making films that resonate and connect with viewers, seems to be going through a creative slump.

Aamir has produced a number of critically acclaimed and commercial blockbuster films under his banner, Aamir Khan Productions—from Oscar-nominated iconic hits to high-grossing social dramas, including Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, Delhi Belly, Talaash: The Answer Lies Within, Dangal, Laapataa Ladies, and others.

While many of the superstar’s films offered what the audience wanted, understanding their expectations, that pulse seems to be missing today. His most recent hit, Sitaare Zameen Par, couldn’t even earn as much as expected, with just ₹165.67 crore net in India. Though the film earned enough to avoid being called a flop, expectations were much higher.

The concerning situation becomes more evident with his 2026 releases—Ek Din, which was made on a budget of ₹25 crore – ₹34 crore but earned a total of ₹5.08 crore – ₹5.50 crore; Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos earned a lifetime gross of roughly ₹7.31 crore against an estimated budget of over ₹20 crore.

Now, the Sunny Deol starrer Batwara 1947, released a week ago, has failed to generate the excitement usually witnessed by an Aamir Khan project, wrapping the first week below ₹35 crore, earning ₹33.60 crore net. Experimenting with new ideas has always been part of Aamir’s career, but the outcome of these films suggests that the actor may be increasingly disconnected from the audience’s current sensibilities.

As an artist, Aamir has the ability to identify stories that feel relevant, entertaining, and emotionally engaging. Also, his films have always had something for audiences to take home. But the situation and that connection appear noticeably weaker today.

As Batwara 1947 is turning out to be another disaster, the question arises whether Aamir has lost his creative instinct or lost touch with the reality of what today’s audience wants. For a star once synonymous with quality and box-office success, this phase is certainly concerning.
