Australia’s Pixel Zoo Animation Studios is bringing the popular graphic novel Neverlanders to the big screen as a teen and family animated movie. The studio’s original content division, Pixel Labs, will handle the adaptation, with author Tom Taylor writing the script and illustrator Jon Sommariva serving as art director. Pixel Zoo’s Head of Studio, Sebastian Gonzalez, will act as executive producer.

Neverlanders reimagines the world of Peter Pan in a darker, action-packed way. The story follows Bee and her group of runaways as they meet Paco, a Lost Boy from Neverland, who needs their help to fight pirates led by a new, ruthless leader. Alongside a foul-mouthed Tinker Bell and her fairy army, the runaways are transported to Neverland to save the day in a war-torn world.

The graphic novel came out in 2022 under the wing of Penguin Random House and has quickly been recognised, including the award of 2023 Book of the Year for Older Readers from the Children’s Book Council of Australia and France’s Prize des Collégiens de la Somme Award. It is already obtainable in several countries, such as the U.S., Australia, France, Spain, and Norway, and a follow-up, Neverlanders: Get Lost, is anticipated for release in 2026.

Australia-based Pixel Zoo, a division of MGA Studios, has partnered with big players like Hasbro and Moonbug Entertainment and is elevating its original content through Pixel Labs.
