Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salmaan is all set to be seen in Hindi , in R Balki’s unusual Chup which takes on film critics in India. A large part of the film is based on Guru Dutt’s immortal classic Kagaz Ke Phool.

Dulquer disarmingly admits that he was not familiar with the works of Guru Dutt. “I mean, of course I knew who Guru Dutt was. And of course I had heard his great songs , seen some of his work. But it was only after working in Balki sir’s Chup that I became aware of the true importance of Guru Dutt to Indian cinema.”

In Chup,Dulquer has even sung the Mohd Rafi hit Sar jot tera chakraye (officially composed by Sachin Dev Burman but actually composed by his son Rahul Dev Burman) from the film Pyaasa .

Dulquer has earlier done two Hindi films Karwaan in 2018 and The Zoya Factor in 2019.

He admits they did not turn out the way he had imagined. “It happens. I have no regrets about doing those films. Now I’m looking forward to Chup. I just can’t imagine how Balki Sir thought of making a film on this theme.”

Chup is the story of a serial killer who targets film critics.
