Bollywood films in the recent times have picked up on the trend of choosing biopic concepts. There have been some enormous hits and success stories seen when such biopic films hit the screens.

Today, we at IWMBuzz.com give our readers a list of the recent biopic films that we have seen and enjoyed. Well, the list of biopics in films are increasing by the day, and we have a small but interesting list to present to you of biopic films that are released and are about to release.

Shershaah

Shershaah is a biopic film based on the life of PVC Captain Vikram Batra, who lost his life during the Kargil war and was awarded Param Veer Chakra by the Army. Playing the titular role in this biographical war film was Sidharth Malhotra. The film was produced by Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment, with Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shabbir Boxwala, Ajay Shah and Himanshu Gandhi serving as producers.

Gangubhai Kathiawadi

This film of Alia Bhatt produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada is based on the true story of Gangubai Harjivandas. She was popularly known as Gangubai Kothewali, and her life was documented in the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi. The film depicts the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour.

Sardar Udham Singh

In Sardar Udham Singh, Vicky Kaushal portrayed the character of the revolutionary – Udham Singh who had an imperative role to play in the assassination of Sir Michael O’ Dwyer. He was the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, British India between 1913 and 1919 and endorsed Colonel Reginald Dyer’s action at Jallianwala Bagh, making it clear that he felt Dyer’s orders to shoot at the crowds was correct. Udham Singh vowed to avenge the loss of life and 21 years later managed to kill O’Dwyer in London.

Thalaivi

Kangana Ranaut played the titular role in this film and it is based on the life of the politician and actor J Jayalalithaa. This biographical film was simultaneously made in Tamil and Hindi. Thalaivii was produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh of Vibri Motion Pictures and Karma Media And Entertainment respectively.

Saina

Parineeti Chopra essayed the biopic of badminton player – Saina Nehwal in this Amole Gupte directorial. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Sujay Jairaj and Rashesh Shah under the banner of T-Series and Front Foot Pictures.

Jhund

This film starring Amitabh Bachchan was the biographical sports based film on the life and journey of Vijay Barse, the founder of the NGO Slum Soccer. It was produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Sandip Singh, Raaj Hiremath, Savita Hiremath, Nagraj Manjule, Gargee Kulkarni and Meenu Arora under the banner of T-Series, Tandav Films Entertainment Pvt.Ltd and Aatpat Films.

Pippa

Ishaan Khatter is all set to play the lead role in the biopic depicting the life of the war hero Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta. The storyline will be a book adaptation that narrates the story of this revolutionary who fought against Pakistan in the iconic war of 1971. It will be helmed by Raja Krishna Menon of Airlift fame

Shabaash Mithu

Taapsee Pannu will be part of yet another biopic and here, she will be essaying the role of the highly respected Mithali Raj – the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team. She has brought unfailing pride to the country and Taapsee is all set to bring her story live on the silver screen. This Rahul Dholakia directorial is slated to release soon this year.

Maidaan

Ajay Devgn will soon be seen in a sports biopic titled Maidaan. He will be essaying the role of the football coach Syed Abdul Rahim who had an important role to play in the golden era of football which lasted between the years 1952–62.

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect

R Madhavan’s prestigious film is an upcoming Indian biographical drama film based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist and aerospace engineer of the Indian Space Research Organisation, who was falsely accused of espionage. The film is produced by Sarita Madhavan; R. Madhavan; Varghese Moolan; Vijay Moolan.

Other notable biopic films that we have seen in the recent times are Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (On Flying Sikh, Milkha Singh), M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (Mahendra Singh Dhoni), Neerja (Neerja Bhanot), Mary Kom, The Dirty Picture (Silk Smitha), Dangal (Phogat sisters), Pravin Thambe Kaun? (Pravin Thambe), Chakda Xpress (Jhulan Goswami), Major (Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan), Samrat Prithviraj, Sam Bahadur (Sam Manekshaw), Gorkha (Major General Ian Cardozo).
