The year 2022 has been quite an interesting one for Indian movies. While majority of the movies and content have failed miserably at the box office, a lot of content has also done wonderfully without much marketing support. At the end of the day, it got proven once again in a big way that ‘content’ is indeed the only ‘master’ and that’s always going to be the main determinant behind whether a movie will become successful or not. To tell you all a little bit about some movies of 2022 that did well, we all will certainly have our own individual lists. But hey, there’s a huge difference between a movie being good and a movie being good enough for ‘Oscars’. So, this time ladies and gentlemen, which are the movies that are being considered as good enough and eligible for Oscars 2023 nomination? Let’s figure out.
For the unversed, ghe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a list of feature films that are eligible for the 95th Oscars. A total of 301 films made the cut, which has drastically improved from 276 in 2022. For Indian cinema as well, it was a decent representation in the reminder list. Nine films were part of the list, including RRR, Kantara, Iravin Nizhal, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Rocketry, Me Vasantrao, The Kashmir Files, Chhello Show, The Next Morning, and Vikrant Rona.
The 9,579 eligible voting members will begin filling out their ballots on January 12. The ballots will close on January 17, and the official Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24.
Given the fact that as many as 9 Indian movies have been shortlisted for this round, it only shows that Indian cinema is only getting better over the years.
