Actor Harshvardhan Rane plays Mumbai’s renowned encounter specialist Daya Nayak in filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s upcoming crime drama Police Company, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 4, 2027. Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series in association with RGV Company, the film draws inspiration from real-life incidents during one of the most turbulent periods in Mumbai’s underworld history.

Set against the backdrop of organised crime and police encounters between 1997 and 2004, Police Company explores the circumstances that led to the killing of approximately 300 alleged gangsters during those years. The narrative focuses on the police officers who confronted Mumbai’s powerful criminal syndicates at a time when gang wars and underworld activities dominated the city’s crime landscape.

While Varma’s acclaimed gangster drama Company examined the internal workings of the criminal underworld, Police Company turns the spotlight on the other side of that world — the police force. The film seeks to present the events and challenges faced by law enforcement officers during the crackdown on organised crime.

Rane portrays Daya Nayak, one of Mumbai Police’s most prominent encounter specialists, whose name became synonymous with operations against gangsters during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Apart from Rane, the film features an ensemble cast including Fardeen Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla, Makrand Deshpande and Ashwini Kalsekar. The makers have yet to disclose details about the characters played by the other actors.

Inspired by actual events and individuals, Police Company marks Varma’s return to the crime genre that has been central to several of his films. Through its police-centric narrative, the filmmaker revisits Mumbai’s underworld era from a perspective different from that explored in Company.

Presented by T-Series Films and RGV Company, Police Company is directed by Ram Gopal Varma and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Ram Gopal Varma.

The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on June 4, 2027.
