Lokkhikantopur Local has hit the right chords. With Ram Kamal Mukherjee holding the wand once again, we can expect an outburst of emotions. The trailer is out, and we can already sense the synchronicity of each wave of tears, complexities, and love that the film is all set to portray on 21st November.

In the trailer, we see core domestic affairs. The treatment of humans looks foundered, and therefore, you carry upon the pertinence that it holds. The story intertwines the lives of three urban couples and how they get emotionally engaged and invested with their domestic help. We dive through the dance of dreams and urbanised struggles that often shatter them.

The film features a spectacular ensemble cast. The film stars Kaushik Ganguly, Rituparna Sengupta, Indraneil Sengupta, Sangita Sinha, Rajnandini Paul and John Bhattacharya as the urban couples and then we see Paoli Dam, Saayoni Ghosh and Chandreyee Ghosh as the domestic helps.

The name suggests a metaphor in itself. The characters that we see in the film are set for the same journey together, while juggling in between their individual lives—all of them seem to have an equal vision that they are questing for.

Lines that we come across like “Mansher cheye machine-er kodor beshi” (Machines are more valuable than humans) —or when Chandreyee Ghosh says in one scene—that she can’t be a mother because she is poor; suggest the intricate divides that we live with.

However, on the other hand the urban couples can easily fulfil the above desires—but get involved in another myriad of struggles that are layered under the societal barricades.

Eyes on 21st November.
