The Malayalam film actor and director E.A. Rajendran died on March 26 2026 at the age of 71. He died at his home in Pattathanam Kollam after fighting age-related health problems for a long time. The Malayalam film and theatre industry shows its dedication to Rajendran who built his permanent legacy through his work lasting several decades.
The National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi allowed Rajendran to complete his studies before he became an actor. Rajendran became a successful actor because his education at the National School of Drama (NSD) and the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) developed his acting skills. He appeared in about 60 movies throughout his career while achieving critical acclaim through his performances in Kaliyattam and Narasimham and Meeshamadhavan and Pattabhishekam and Thachiledathu Chundan. Rajendran showed his acting range through his performances in movies while he built a powerful presence in the theater arts through his work with the Kalidasa Kalakendram theatre company. He won the Kerala State Government Award for Best Play in 1987 for directing a play that demonstrated his ability to play multiple roles.
Rajendran dedicated his time to artistic creation while he operated as Chairman of the State Horticulture Corporation to serve the community. He is survived by his wife Sandhya Rajendran and their son actor Divyadarshan. He was the brother-in-law of popular actor and Kollam MLA M. Mukesh.
People will visit Kollam to pay their last respects to Rajendran before the body goes to his birthplace in Thrithallur Thrissur for the funeral which will take place on March 27. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolences to the family who dedicated their artistic life to their discipline.
