With the Enforcement Directorate questioning where the funds for Jagannath Puri’s ill-fated Liger came from, the troubles for the film and its producers seem to be multiplying with each passing week.

A close friend of Puri spoke to me about his never-ending trauma. “He never thought this would happen. Puri felt Liger would be the biggest hit of his career. He spent close to 30 crores as Mike Tyson’s fee for a 10-minute appearance, not realizing that today’s generation did not give a flying duck about who Tyson is. It was like bringing K L Saigal into a Baba Sehgal concert.”

Once Liger released the liabilities multiplied.

“Puri was not prepared either for the critics or the financial backlash. Even after release he thought the backlash would die down. But they’ve increased by the week. Distributors want Puri to compensate. And now the ED wants to know where the financial resources for Liger came from,” the source paints a bleak picture for Puri’s future.

With Vijay Deverakonda completely dissociating himself from Puri and his partner Charmee Kaur, it is unlikely that Puri will be able to make another film until he is able to clear the mess that Liger has created.
