Rakul Preet Singh, speaking openly with Siddharth Kannan, discussed the moment she realised the importance of failure in her career. She acknowledged the hits she had in the South and her entry into the industry, but she said the disappointment of the Mahesh Babu–starrer Spyder was her first big career setback.
Rakul revealed that the film’s surprising outcome had a significant impact on her life and that she had to go through a complex but valuable learning process about expectations, strength, and the inevitability of failure in an artist’s journey.
She said, “My first big failure… I would say it’s not exactly my failure, but the failure that affected me was Spyder. Because in Telugu, many of my films had worked — whether it was with Ram Charan, with Jr. NTR, with Ram Pothineni — there was a series of 8–10 films that did well.” She added, how she was alright with her expectations breaking, “I think the first time I really felt, ‘Okay, so this is what it feels like when your expectations break,’ was with the movie Spyder. Mahesh Babu was there, Mahesh Babu sir, and Murugadoss sir was directing. So obviously when you sign such a film, you feel like, ‘A.R. Murugadoss + Mahesh Babu? They’re going to create madness! We’re going to create fireworks!”
Rakul Preet Singh added failures did not get into her head, “But the failure of that film — even though it’s not in your hands as an actor — that failure made me realize, ‘Alright… okay… this is how it feels.” And further added, “But I’m not someone, Siddharth, who becomes sad. Because the ones who rise are the ones who fall, right? If you’re not doing anything at all, how will you even experience failure? Failure is a part of the process. And failure only makes you stronger. Failure makes you more aware.”
Rakul Preet Singh and Ajay Devgn starrer De De Pyaar De 2 is inching closer to the 100-cr mark worldwide. The film is a sequel to the 2019 comedy De De Pyaar De.
