Sridevi’s Chennai land dispute has reached the Supreme Court. On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the Supreme Court issued a formal notice to film producer Boney Kapoor and his daughters, actors Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, regarding the land dispute and also a plea for mediation. The order proposed that both parties maintain the status quo on a 2.7-acre plot of land in Chennai and recommended court-monitored mediation via a retired High Court judge.
Reportedly, advising the family and the claimants to resolve the matter amicably rather than through prolonged litigation, the Bench stated: “We wanted to know if you people were prepared to sit together and sort it out. We will give you a good mediator. Go and come back. We will appoint a retired High Court judge.”
The legal dispute stems from 2.7 acres of land located in Sholinganallur, Chennai, that late actor Sridevi, along with her mother and sister, purchased in April 1988. After Sridevi’s demise, her legal heirs – her husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor – applied for a revenue patta transfer in their names in 2023.
The local trial court initially let the suit proceed and granted a decree in the claimants’ favor, but the Madras High Court later rejected it entirely on an appeal filed by the Kapoors. Sivakami then approached the Supreme Court.
Appearing for the Kapoor family, Senior Advocate AM Singhvi today argued that the suit was completely barred by limitation and amounted to an abuse of the judicial process.
After hearing both sides, the top court ultimately directed the parties to explore an amicable settlement through court-monitored mediation.
