Actor Vimal, who is known for his work in Tamil films, has been sentenced to one year in jail by the Chennai court in a cheque fraud case. Reportedly, the actor failed to repay the money he took as a loan to make his film Mannar Vagiyaara, leading to the controversy.
The Legal Matter
As per the reports, actor Vimal took a loan of rupees 4.5 crore from financier Gopi. The former claimed that even after the film he took money to produce was released, Vimal did not pay the amount. Later, the actor paid the amount in the form of a cheque. However, when Gopi deposited the cheque in the bank, it was returned to him, saying that there was no money in the account.
Following the cheque bounce, producer Gopi filed a case against actor Vimal in the Chennai Metropolitan Magistrate Court for fraud involving a cheque for Rs 4.5 crore.
The Court Order
Judge Aarthi, who heard the case in the court, stated that the allegations made against Vimal had been proved true and so ordered him to repay the amount along with a one-year jail sentence.
