Disney’s Tron: Ares, featuring Jared Leto in the lead, has now completed 18 days in theatres, but its box office trajectory continues to decline. The much-hyped sci-fi sequel, which arrived with grand expectations and an ambitious budget, is finding it increasingly difficult to sustain its momentum in its third week.

According to early trade estimates, Tron: Ares collected around $1.1 million (₹9.2 crore) worldwide on Day 18, bringing its cumulative global total to approximately $124.5 million (₹1,030 crore). The domestic market in North America has contributed approximately $63.8 million, while international markets have reached nearly $60.7 million, indicating limited growth over the past few days.

The film’s steady drop reflects audience fatigue, as initial excitement surrounding its futuristic premise and digital world has largely waned. While Tron: Ares opened strong due to nostalgia and brand recognition, it failed to build lasting engagement — an issue that has plagued several visually ambitious projects in recent years.

Critics and viewers have widely praised the film’s stunning CGI, sleek production design, and immersive world-building — hallmarks of the Tron franchise. However, its weak emotional depth, predictable writing, and lack of compelling character arcs have dampened repeat viewership. Many fans feel that, despite its technical brilliance, the film lacks the heart that made the original concept so iconic.

With its enormous reported budget of over $300 million, Tron: Ares remains far from profitability. Industry analysts predict the film’s global theatrical run could end around $145–150 million (₹1,150–1,250 crore) — a figure that falls significantly short of expectations for a major Disney tentpole release.

As Tron: Ares enters its third week, it stands as a reminder that visual spectacle alone cannot drive box office success. In the era of story-driven blockbusters, even the most dazzling sci-fi universes need emotional resonance to shine beyond the screen.
