A case of mistaken identity takes an unexpected turn in Udta Teer, which has arrived in cinemas today, October 23. Headlined by Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, the film is receiving encouraging early reactions for its comic premise and entertaining narrative. Combining espionage with humour, the film takes a rather unusual route, placing an identity mix-up at the centre of a story packed with amusing situations and unexpected developments.

Helmed by Akash A Kaushik, Udta Teer revolves around Bilal Ahmed, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, a Pakistani intelligence operative whose life takes a bizarre turn after an accident leaves him with memory loss. Convinced that he is Vikrant, an Indian counter-terrorism officer, Bilal finds himself caught in a situation that blurs the lines between his actual identity and the one he believes in. This unusual predicament drives the film’s narrative, creating opportunities for comic encounters while keeping its espionage backdrop firmly in place.

Rather than following a conventional spy-film template, Udta Teer builds its narrative around the absurdity of its central situation. The interplay between mistaken identity, intelligence operations and situational comedy gives the film its distinctive flavour. Its early reception has highlighted the appeal of this unusual setup, with the film offering a lighter alternative for moviegoers looking for humour alongside action and suspense.

Ayushmann Khurrana brings his comic sensibilities to the role of Bilal, navigating the character’s unusual circumstances, while Sara Ali Khan plays the female lead. The film is further supported by an ensemble featuring Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Suhail Nayyar, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe.

Behind the film is the collaboration between Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, the production houses that previously came together for Kill. Produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor, Achin Jain and Adar Poonawalla, Udta Teer brings together an ensemble cast and an unconventional concept in a bid to deliver a theatrical comedy with an espionage twist.

With its identity-switch premise driving the story, Udta Teer offers a different take on the spy-comedy space. The film is now playing in cinemas, bringing Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan together in a story where an intelligence operative’s biggest predicament begins when he no longer knows who he really is.
