The buzz around the upcoming Pan-India film Thug Life is at an all-time high. With just two weeks to go until its grand release, the cast and crew have plunged headfirst into promotions. Now, in a recent revelation, the legendary Kamal Haasan—who also headlines the film—has shared an intriguing detail about its origins.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kamal Haasan revealed that Thug Life was initially based on a script he had written, titled Amar Hai. Shedding light on the concept, he explained:

“I finished the script. It was called Amar Hai at that time. Amar hai is a pun; a man who is believed to be dead is not dead. His name is Amar, and that’s the problem. The trailer says, ‘The trouble with him is that he’s dead.’ It starts with a mysterious dead body, and then he appears and peeks in. I wrote this and that character, but he (Mani Ratnam) took it like an idea. It’s like telling a joke—you say you like it, but the final punch could be sharper.”

Produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies, R. Mahendran, and Siva Ananth, Thug Life features an ensemble cast of stellar performers. Kamal Haasan leads the film as Rangaraaya Sakthivel Naicker, alongside Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Ali Fazal, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf, among others.

With Mani Ratnam at the helm and music by A.R. Rahman, Thug Life is all set for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2025. Brace yourself for a cinematic experience like never before!
