If you’re a part of the ARMY, you’ve probably wondered how BTS members were identified and developed. Their narrative, like that of other great bands before them, is a combination of the expected and unexpected. “No More Dream,” BTS’ first song, was released in 2013. RM, Jungkook, Jimin, V, Suga, Jin, and J-Hope have become household names among K-pop fans worldwide since then.

BTS has become one of the biggest and most well-known artists in K-pop history, with celebrity admirers such as Shawn Mendes, Tyra Banks, and Charlie Puth. BTS, on the other hand, wasn’t always BTS. BTS members were simply seven ordinary South Korean boys with dreams of pop fame a decade ago. Then Big Hit Entertainment arrived, and their lives were permanently transformed. As ARMYs are well aware, 2020 was a watershed moment for the band.

1.RM

RM, whose full name is Kim Namjoon, is the band’s leader and the band’s founding member. One of the band’s rappers is RM, whose former stage name was Rap Monster. In the sixth school, he began rapping after discovering Epik High’s “Fly.” RM made music under the alias Runch Randa when he was in middle school, which led to his joining the Daenamhyup rap gang.

2. Jungkook

Jungkook is a member of BTS and goes by the name Jeon Jeongguk. He is also the band’s youngest member, garnering him the moniker “Golden Maknae” from BTS. Jungkook was discovered after auditioning in his hometown of Busan for the third season of Superstar K. Kookie is his pet name.

3. V

V is the son of Daegu farmers, whose full name is Kim Taehyung. On his father’s advice, V started playing the saxophone in high school with the intention of becoming a musician. Then he went to Daegu with a friend to audition for Big Hit Entertainment.

4. Suga

Suga, whose real name is Min Yoongi, started out as a rapper as Gloss in high school. Suga made a name for himself as a rapper and a producer in a short amount of time. (In his homeland of Daegu, he was recognized for creating and arranging beats for local musicians such as the band D-Town.)

5. Jin

Jin was the fourth member of BTS, and his full name is Kim Seokjin. Jin was discovered by SM Entertainment while walking around the streets of Anyang.

6. Jimin

Park Jimin was BTS’s final member and his full name is Park Jimin. While a student at the Busan High School of Arts, where he was taught in the Department of Dance, a dancing teacher encouraged Jimin to audition for Big Hit Entertainment.

7. J-Hope

Before joining BTS, J-Hope, whose full name is Jung Hoseok, was best known as a dancer. He was a member of the dance ensemble Neuron in his hometown of Gwangju before applying for JYP Entertainment. After making it through a few rounds, J-Hope was fired from JYP, forcing him to apply for Big Hit Entertainment instead.
