Zendaya has made a name for herself as an outspoken advocate for feminism and equality at the age of 25. And, in the middle of a public debate over men in power’s widespread maltreatment and silence of women, the actress argues that now, more than ever, it’s critical for women to speak up, no matter how disheartened they are.

She told ELLE.com at the Forevermark Tribute Collection launch event in New York City, “Women are incredibly powerful.” “We’re such incredible people and creations, and I believe that when we look out for one other, encourage each other, and protect each other, we’re even more powerful. That includes all types of women.”

Zendaya continued saying: “I think it’s especially vital right now not to be terrified or frightened into silence,” “because we need each other, and we need each other’s voice now more than ever.” “Now, I believe, is the perfect time to stand up, particularly for our female colleagues who may not have a voice or whose voice is a bit more muffled. It’s past time for us to use our platforms to help one another.” “Collect your thoughts and then come back,” she advised, “because it can be a lot.” “Every day it seems like we’re being hit with something new, something new that we need to repair or that we’re hurting from, and it’s difficult and frightening, but I believe it’s critical that we take it one step at a time and never be scared. Never be frightened to take action in the face of adversity.”
